Appearance
- Face Claim: Emily Blunt
- Appearance: 5’7. Medium long, dark hair usually styled strait. Blue eyes. Fair complexion.
Her outfits are usually a combination of Muggle and Wizarding style. High-waisted bell-bottom jeans and a jumper worn over a collared shirt, all under navy blue or violet robes. She prefers boots or shoes suitable for running should the need arise. - Notable Markings: A handful of scars of various size and shape all over from her time as an Auror. They appear well healed. Mostly hidden under clothing.
Personality
- Strengths:
Healing Magic: Perhaps not with the same surgical precision as an actual Healer, she uses her skills so that those in her care can make it to an actual Healer (like a paramedic vs a surgeon)
Perseverance: Despite hardship, difficulty, or delay Charlotte is loath to give up when she's set her mind to the task.
Herbalism: Taught from an early age by her adoptive mother Charlotte has a good understanding of magical plants, specialized for healing, anti-venom, pain relief and the like.
Potions: Like her skills in Herbalism, she specializes in restorative draughts.
Dueling: Showing a talent for dueling during school, she honed her skills during Auror training and in the field.
[li] Weaknesses:
Compassion: Also her weakness, she can become consumed with her need to help others.
Tunnel-vision: Sometimes when a problem is proving difficult to overcome she can become so focused on finding a solution that she fails to see the bigger picture.
Seeks Approval: Charlotte cares just a bit too much what other people think of her. She tries to act like she doesn't and will deny it but she does.
PTSD: Charlotte was diagnosed within the last year. She experiences panic attacks, nightmares, and disturbing memories. She is still adjusting as she hasn’t fully accepted the fact. She keeps a Calming Draught on her in case of emergencies.[/li][li] Likes:
Music: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Monkees
Reading: Charlie enjoys reading, sometimes for hours at a time, becoming a bit of a human pretzel in the process. Her personal library includes fiction and non-fiction, Wizard and Muggle written.
Tea! A good cup of tea; a superheated infusion of free radicals and tannin. Just the thing for healing the synapses!
Quidditch: Charlie used to play as Chaser on the Ravenclaw team. She’s a fan of the Tutshill Tornados and likes to attend a game when she’s able. Attends all Hogwarts games to support her students.
Learning: There is always more to learn! Charlotte will approach the other teachers at Hogwarts as experts in their fields to brush up on skills and new discoveries or techniques.
[/li][li] Dislikes:
Bigots and bigotry: Our differences are one of the things that make life so interesting. Our different perspectives can help shed a greater light on the big picture.
Abusers: Especially those that ruin innocence. There's a special place in hell for animal abusers, child molesters, and sexual offenders.
Mistreatment of Books: Writing in them is one thing, folding or tearing pages is another. Cracking the spine makes her cringe.
[/li][li] Personality: [/li]Charlotte is accepting and diplomatic, preferring to find a peaceful solution and working as a team against greater problems. She can be stubborn; when she sets her mind to something she needs to see things through. She doesn't like no-win situations or using dark means for light ends. Two wrongs don't make a right.
As a professor Charlotte is strict but fair. She speaks in calm, measured tones. She rarely raises her voice in class, commanding silence while she's speaking, and enforces the same courtesy when it's a student's turn to speak. She really wants her students to succeed, makes an effort to teach in different ways to get through to different learning styles and will make time for students who ask for extra help.
Among the other professors at Hogwarts she is still adjusting to the idea that they are her colleagues and not her teachers, although she will still go to them for advice.

History
- History:
Charlotte's birth mother was from a family which ages ago was a wizarding family but the magic in their blood had seemed to weaken and die out. The jealousy felt at the loss of their wizarding status turned to hate and revulsion so the family shunned magic and all magic kind, passing their history and prejudice through generations.
Charlotte’s birth father was a Squib in an otherwise proudly Pureblood family and for this small crime he was discarded. (Marius Black)
When unexplained things began to happen around a very young Charlotte, perhaps 3 or 4, her parents recognized what this could mean: Charlotte was a witch.
She doesn't remember exactly what happened but she remembers spending a couple nights in a few strange homes before she finally stopped moving and began to live with Winnie.
Winnie Amell, a middle-aged witch, had all the love and warmth that little Charlotte needed and then some. In earlier years she had become pregnant by a Muggle man she never saw again, which suited her fine. Unfortunately, she lost the baby. So, some years later when given the opportunity she was more than happy to bring Charlotte into her home and love her as her own.
It was Charlotte who had first brought up adoption at eight years old in the innocent child-like way of asking directly. Winnie wanted to be sure this was something Charlotte truly wanted.
“Do you promise to love me forever no matter what?” Charlotte asked plainly. Winnie chuckled softly and told her of course. “Then I promise to love you forever no matter what. Let's get adopted!”
Eager to learn and wanting to do well, Charlotte excelled in most areas in primary school. It was frequently noted by her teachers that she was reading above her level. She would also patiently help new classmates feel welcome and show them the ropes, either becoming her friend or moving on to their own cliques.
July 23, 1961, a month before her eleventh birthday she received her acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Winnie had taught her basic principles, most notably very basic Magical first-aid as she was a Healer at St Mungo's and Herbology as gardening was her particular hobby. Charlotte was keen to learn more.
Charlotte was sorted into Ravenclaw and quickly made friends with another first year Ravenclaw boy, Jack Desmond. They were practically inseparable, but never dated, instead happy with their relationship as friends.
Charlotte did well in school. Chaser for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team and Prefect for her house. She achieved Outstanding and Exceeds-Expectations on her OWLs and NEWTs, most notably in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and Potions.
When she graduated from Hogwarts Charlotte and her best friend Jack applied for and were accepted into Auror training. After three years of rigorous training and testing they were accepted into the ranks of Britain’s Aurors and became partners.
For three years Charlotte served the Ministry of Magic faithfully, upholding the law and protecting the magical community. It was around this time that she started to notice little differences in Jack’s behaviour. Small and easy to miss at first, she attributed it to the stress of the job and did what she could to help her friend, but you cannot make someone accept your help. During the winter of 1974/75 Jack finally revealed his intentions. He had joined Grindlewald’s cause and invited Charlotte to join him.
Charlotte begged and pleaded with her friend that he would come to his senses. He refused. She knew she had to arrest him. He resisted. They dueled to a fatal end. Charlotte was still standing. It did not feel like victory.
It was standard practice that when an Auror lost their partner they were given some time off to recover. When Charlotte returned to work she thought she would be fine, that getting back into the routine would help her put it all behind her. Instead she began experiencing unexplained moments of panic, terrible nightmares, and recurring memories of the night she had had to put her best friend down. Her self-control had been a point of pride; she felt like she was losing her mind. She visited the Healers of St. Mungo’s and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
At first she refused to allow herself to be unwell and wouldn’t accept the reality of the situation. When she was called for a meeting with the Minister of Magic himself, Tom Riddle, she thought she had really done it and was about to be sacked. Instead he commended her for her outstanding record, dedication, and moral fiber. There was someone he wanted her to meet.
She was introduced to the current Headmaster of Hogwarts and offered a job as professor. Initially confused, they impressed upon her that someone like Charlotte was just the sort of person they wanted to help mould the future generation, and to prepare against any possible Dark threats. After some persuading, she accepted the position of Professor of the Defence Against the Dark Arts.

It was late in the afternoon, the sky turning into an array or pinks and oranges, as Charlotte walked across the lawn of the cemetery. The weather was turning cold and she pulled her coat around her tighter. She held a small bouquet of asphodel flowers, picked with permission from her mother's garden, and hand tied with a black ribbon. She finally stopped in front of a somewhat newer looking headstone.
She knelt to place the flowers down and sighed heavily when she stood, her breath visible in the cold air. Silence stretched for minutes until she finally spoke.
“You arsehole. How could you? How could you dare?!” She sniffled. “How could you be such an idiot? How could you think that joining him would be smart move? Why would you ever think that I…” She looked away as though she couldn't stand to see someone's face, but returned her angry gaze a moment later.
“And now I'm stuck here without your stupid arse and I'm losing control of my own mind! I never planned for this. I'm off course and I don't know where I'm going or what I'm doing. I've never felt so lost, and it's your fault! You were supposed to be my best mate, I trusted you! Then you went and… And I had to…” She was crying now, tears streaming down her face.
“I should have known, I should have seen. I could have prevented all of this. We should be talking over a pint after another day of hard work. Instead I'm talking to your damned grave.” She cleared her throat and checked her pockets for something to wipe her face, finding only a crumpled receipt. With a quick flick of her wand it shifted into a crumpled handkerchief and she wiped her eyes and nose before stuffing it back into her coat pocket.
“Arsehole.”
She turned and walked away, heading for a nearby tree. She walked behind it and with a small pop she was gone.
Beneath the small bouquet of asphodel flowers the gravestone read:
Jack Desmond
