Appearance

- Appearance: Blonde haired and hazel eyed she stands at about five feet and four inches. Slightly shorter than most girls, and most often mistaken for being much younger than she is. She has a very soft face and even softer eyes, contrasted by a vibrant and impish smile. She is considered lithe, without much of any curves, which can be surprising considering how much food she packs away.
Her long blonde hair has a slight natural curl to it, which causes it to create waves unless she puts in an effort to straighten it. This seems far too much effort though, so she often just throws it into a bun or a ponytail. It appears honey or wheat in colour, though this is because of solution she keeps in her hair that alters the colour. Underneath her hair is platinum.
While she technically follows the dress code of the school she is always wearing a pair of large black and yellow wellington boots, she also almost always has something in her ponytail or bun. Be it a feather she found, or leaves, flowers, and always with her wand.
When not in school she loves big sweaters and tights that go into her wellies. It it obvious she likes to dress for comfort, but also loves to adorn herself with fun trinkets and things she finds in the wilderness. - Notable Markings: Never without her side satchel, which contains her personal spellbook.
Personality
- Strengths:
Herbology - She is a green thumb. There is rumor that she could spit in a pot and something would grow. Though is would be odder then odd and likely a strange colour. She speaks to plants as is they talk back to her.
Care of Magical Creatures - Her loves of all things living translates to creatures and her fascination to learn more drove her head first into the subject. Her variety of "cute beasts" usually varies from others.
Healing Spells - Her love and desire to help others translates well into healing magic. She is ahead of most of her classmates when it comes to the art of mending and healing.
Spellcraft - Pandora detests mundane spells. That coupled with her desire to help others has led to her obsession with spell creation. She has been developing many of her own spells since her first year at Hogwarts.
Eating contests - Her hallow leg has left her nearly undefeated in contests of the eating variety. She is a prime example of size not being a factor in consumption.
Making Friends - "You are my friend now. I have decided." Pandora has a tendency to find the people crying in corridors and invading their space with love and company. While she does not always know what to say, she know what is it like to be lonely. She has a collection of "misfits" as friends.
Daydreaming - With one wild and creative imagination Pandora is capable of getting lost in grand stories. She is never bored as long as she has her own thoughts to get lost in. - Weaknesses:
Naive - The saying "once bitten, twice shy" does not apply to Pandora. She has a habit of trusting easily and forgiving even easier. She seems lost to the darker parts of the world.
Academic heavy courses - In course that require more attention and heavier instruction she finds herself struggling. Homework is her bane and most of the set structure courses make her want to pull out her hair.
Quirky - Talking to plants as you would an old friend. Carrying spiders from the safety of screams and threats of death. Feeding mice the scraps from the table. Off beat and marching to her own tune Pandora is quirky even by wizard standards.
Daydreaming - Getting lost in those stories can be just as hindering as helpful. She easily finds herself creating a story in her mind when she should be paying to a very angry McGonagall. It often lands her in detention.
Social cues and personal space - Pandora does not always get subtle hints or body language. While she adapts to those in close company she still has a tendency to insert herself where she may not always be welcome. Be it a conversation, or hug, it takes a very solid answer most times. - Likes: Food, "Cute" animals, Gardening, Being useful, Herbology class, Being outside (no matter the weather), Flying
- Dislikes: Tummy Aches, Being hungry, people who hurt her friends, traditional pureblood thinking, being stuck indoors for long periods.
- Personality: Energetic is the most common word used to describe her. Others include vibrant, outgoing, loud, or annoying. Pandora is high energy and extremely active, this crossed with her love of socialization and conversation can sometimes be overwhelming and overbearing to those who are not used to it. This is not a cover for anything, like some might assume, she purely enjoys being active and engaged at almost all times. If she cannot get stimulation from a social event she turns to talking to her plants and animals.
Her only other distraction is food, which she adores, both the making or the eating of.
Pan has a big heart and loves to expend her energy helping others. It is not uncommon for her to take on big school projects or to spend hours helping someone in need. She loves to try new things and will rarely say no to adventure, only ever being cautious if it is something that could harm someone else or is incredibly against the rules and could resort in expulsion. She is a regular in the detention hall next to the Marauders.
She has the hardest time trying to meditate or sit still for a long period unless she is actively working on something. Being confined indoors for too long makes her stir crazy and more likely to do something impulsive or dangerous just to satiate the feeling of boredom. She is only ever at peace and calm when outdoors, it is the only time she can focus on one thing for a long period of time.
While it’s incredibly difficult to get to that point Pandora does have a temper. If pushed too hard she has lashed back at bullies, usually finding a way to get back at them with a prank. Though she has knocked down one or two others students that have hurt or attacked her friends.
History
- History: The Rookwoods were once known are a serventile house, but became a house of their own after a grab for power. Years of Slytherins had been born through their name. Augustus Darnoc Rookwood was one such wizard, whom married an Avery 3rd cousin for the prestige. Keeping the family tradition of grabbing alive and well.
They had two sons, the Eldest, Augustus Ryan, and the second son Willum Bryce. While the eldest son cared little for his responsibilities, even going so far as to “travel” after graduation, the younger son fell in line. He married his Hogwarts attraction, a wildly passionate woman in Ravenclaw by the name of Jeanne. It was an acceptable match to the family. She was Pureblood, even if not from the twenty-eight, and for the first several years seemed to fit in.
Jeanne gave birth to their daughter Pandora Adelaide, named for Jeanne’s own mother Adelaide. The fighting began shortly after that. It seemed the limits Jeanne was willing to take only stretch as far as her own children. Pandora was not a difficult child, but she certainly had a difficult time sitting still or paying attention to anything the adults said. She was clashing with her father and grandparents before her personality even began to develop. It was clear the child did not seem to fit into the traditional pureblood world.
While most girls her age were playing piano, Pandora was elbow deep in dirt and mud. She loved being outside and even as a toddler would yammer away at the plants in baby talk for hours. Her mother encouraged it, finding it a beautiful trait in such a young being. (Talking to the plants seemed more acceptable then the times she would talk to the empty spots next to her.) For her first birthday Jeanne planted and gifted Pandora with a special potted plant know as a “Wandering love shrub”. Known to hang around wizards how felt tremendous love so it could bloom.
Figgus, as it was named, became Pandora’s first official friend.
When Pandora was four years old the fighting escalated. The couple had taken their daughter on one of their trips. While on such a trip a fight began. Jeanne was angry. Willum was angrier. The fight turned to a duel. In the heat of the battle the couple accidently killed each other, destroying the room they had been. Pandora was trapped under a large amount of rubble before she was found.
It was muggles who had come to scene first, initially believing there to have been some kind of pipe explosion in the hotel the couple was staying in. Pandora woke up in a muggle hospital in agony and with a strange plastic tube feeding liquid into her arm. The people around her poked and prodded in a way no magical healer had ever done.
Attempts to remove the tube were painful and led to the woman in strange hats into strapping her down in her hysteria and panic. It was several hours before she was rescued A man from the ministry showed up. She only remembered dark hair, blue eyes, and a scarf of green and silver. They made the pain and fear disappear with a cold hand on her forehead.
The next time she woke up was in her own bed.
The investigation and trial took weeks. It that time Pandora found herself staying with her mother’s family. The ruling determined that the girl would be better left in the care of her aunts and uncle on her mother’s side then with the elderly Rookwoods.
She grew up with her two aunts and one uncle sharing responsibility of her. She bounced from each of their homes for several years. She enjoyed staying with her uncle Sean the most, for he had no children of his own and the property was hers to do with as she pleased, but she could not stay there when he went away for work.
Before Pandora’s eleventh Birthday the Rookwood’s reached out to her. Her uncle had returned home and had taken his rightful position as head of the house. As the only current Rookwood heir, and one of their own, they hoped she would make the decision to stay with them while she attended Hogwarts, so they may better tutor her in her skills.
Against the suggestions of her dear aunts, Pandora accepted. A summer with the Rookwoods each year could do her some good, and they were half of her family. Her grandmother was the one who showed up to to retrieve her. The two went to Diagon Alley. Though her Grandmother was stiff, a proper traditional witch, she was not someone Pandora found entirely unpleasant.
The two had a rather enjoyable trip to pick up her new things. She had even convinced the woman to stop for an iced loli, something she had not experienced since her own days at Hogwarts.
It was on such a trip that her grandmother bought her a black cat as a companion, and a large blank tome to make her journal. On the book she had “Pandora’s Spells” inlaid in shining gold. It was in this book she began to write down the spells of her own creation.
Life at the Rookwoods was not easy. She had much to learn in terms of appropriate Pureblood behaviour, especially for a family trying so desperately to fit in. It did not help that Dora’s own uncle Augustus saw her as a threat to his position. He was not subtle in letting her know she was the daughter of the second born son. She found shrugging at him and walking away far to amusing as his face would go purple and he would yell at nothing. Or at his wife, who was a wallflower of a woman.
Pandora kept her home life and school life separate, not allowing her past and the events at home to affect her mood at school. Hogwarts was a safe place free from it all and she knew that her destiny lay far beyond the name her late father had given her.
One of these very people became her very best friend. Evangeline, a girl she found sad and alone, angry at the house she was chosen in. It is through her friendships that Pan finds strength and courage. Even if she is not friends with the student she has landed herself in detention more then once getting back at the bully with a prank or hijinx.
Pandora is now in her fourth year at Hogwarts and has done exceedingly well at keeping her Hogwarts and home lives separate. She very much hopes to keep it that way.
Person behind the Character
- Chat Box/OOC Name: Smare
- How did you find us: Creation.
- Any Previous Character: Tom Riddle, Lily Evans.
- Role Playing Sample: Platform nine and three quarters was alive with the activity of many students and their families. Another year of Hogwarts meant another adventure. Fourth year was bound to be different. It was the last year before school began to get a lot more serious. Fourth year felt like it could be boring.
Oh course, for Pandora, life was never boring.
Pushing her cart along she gazed over the crowd, not entirely paying attention to everything the older witch behind her was saying. The woman was tall, but withered, and held herself straighter then seemed possible for her age. Her hair was entirely white and silver, and she had it done up in the most professional looking bun, with not a hair out of place. Her robes were white and deep purples, and tailored to fit her, not a stitch stray. Her hat, trimmed in lace, helped shroud her piercing blue eyes, that stared at every other person on the platform with disdain. She was a thoroughly well put together witch, and gave off the air of pureblood aristocratic try hard.
“Pandora, and you listening to a word I am saying?”
Pandora did not skip a beat as she replied, “Of course, Nan!” She looked at the older and much colder witch with a beaming and affectionate smile.
“Good! You are becoming a young lady, it is important you begin to show that in your manners.”
Grandma’s serious voice meant Pandora was not giving her the responses she wanted. Which was often. Ceasing her viewing of the rest of the platform she did her best to give her grandmother her full attention, even if for a moment. Once she was on the train it would be several months before she saw her again, it was the least she could do to be polite. “I understand Grandma. I plan to work really hard on my studies this year.”
The older woman looked over her teenage Granddaughter before giving her a nod. “Good. Off you go then. Don’t want to be late. And mind that plant of yours, it is wandering again.”
Sure enough the potted plant she was often seen with was wandering into the crowd of people. “Oh gosh!” She burst out and let go of her cart, diving to grab the plant. She was successful, however her cart continued. Had it not been for Grandma’s quick actions someone would have surely been harmed.
The older witch held her wand out and cart was steady.
Pandora stood and brushed herself off with one hand, the other holding the plant to her hip. “Thanks Grandma! I should go, love you!”
She did not give the older witch much time to respond as she grabbed her cart and pushed it away from the woman who simply let out a defeated sigh.
She was grateful her black cat companion was a little more behaved then her plant. In fact he continued to sleep on his blanket until disturbed. After getting her trunk and belongings stored away safely she began a search of the train. Only her first year had she sat alone, every other year there was someone else with her.
It took her a few tries before she finally found the one she was looking for. The door slid open, “Oh ho ho, I found you!”
